Compare two versions of text

See additions, removals, and unchanged content between an original and a revised passage. Compare by lines for documents, by words for editing, or by characters for small technical changes.

Step by step

  1. Paste the earlier version into Original and the new version into Updated.
  2. Select line, word, or character comparison.
  3. Use the highlighted result to review every addition and removal.

Common uses

  • Review edits between two drafts or policy versions.
  • Spot a changed value in configuration text.
  • Check whether copied content differs beyond capitalization.

Good to know

A text diff compares visible characters; it does not understand meaning. Line-ending styles, whitespace, and punctuation can create differences even when prose looks similar. Enable Ignore case only when capitalization is irrelevant.

Frequently asked questions
